About the Artist
Bio
After a 20+ year career in nursing, I decided to focus on my first passion, Art. I began taking oil painting lessons and workshops while working full-time in nursing education. In 2012 I became a resident artist at River Oaks Arts Center in Alexandria, Louisiana. In 2017 I completed a MA in Art in 2017.
I lived in Louisiana for ten years until moving back to Texas, my home state, in 2018. My primary joy is in painting landscapes, from desert to bayou, yet I am easily drawn to the beauty in whatever presents itself at the moment. I enjoy working and experimenting in multiple mediums, with a primary focus in drawing, oils and pastels.
My inspiration can be found in a wide variety of artists, from the master works of J.M.W. Turner, George Inness, and Paul Cezanne to contemporary artists Deborah Paris, David Dunlop, Eric Aho, Mary Bentz Gilkerson along with innumerable others.
I love to mix of traditional and contemporary painting techniques as I continue to explore my craft.
Artist Statement
Light and luminosity is the source of divine energy and life. I never tire of looking at nature. It is there that I find my inspiration. Life, whether visible or invisible to us, can be sensed and felt. It is created in infinitely unique and sublime ways, sometimes surviving extreme and inhospitable conditions. The divine spark was not limited to humans but exists in the beauty and intricate interrelationships between all forms of being.
My landscapes represent a search for the light and energy that exists within nature. The desert is a beautiful example. It is vast, harsh and seemingly void of life, yet is actually alive, serving to support and nurture a tremendous biodiversity of plants and creatures. The desert is alive.
